Update on Dad

For those of you not checking Caring Bridge first, I apologize.  I decided to post there first and I haven’t been here since.  No internet at the hospital after surgery waiting room.

Dad is having a rough time.  His heart issues have come back into play and he is on the second floor now, where they are monitoring his heart 24/7.  Has a tube down his nose/throat to suction out his stomach due to bowel obstruction.  Atrial fibrillation back in the picture and now they’re concerned about pulmonary embollism (not sure of spelling).

No word yet from pathology, but the kidney surgery itself went very well.  Will post again when we know more from pathology.

Grunge Chic Journals on Etsy – 3 New Ones

Tuesday is “pre-admit” day for Dad to get his blood typed and held for the surgery on Wednesday.  Monday will be the last “open” day, so I gotta keep going.

New Grunge Journals Coming This Weekend!!

I did it….I actually finished three Grunge journals!  My “goal” was to get them finished and on Etsy by the end of the weekend.  Yay, me!!

These Grunge journals are a little different.  I’m calling them Grunge Chic Journals.  The outside is Grunge style but the inside pages reflect a little grunge and a little class at the same time.  Looks cool together, I think.   All I need to do now is photograph them and list them, which will happen tomorrow morning. 

We have to get started on getting the house ready for the surgery, people arriving, coming/going, etc.  I’ve been the hold up with the journals.  Tomorrow by this time I will likely feeling twice as bad as I do now, a scary thought!  I love creating the journals but it’s hard on me physically.  No more three at a time…journals will now come in pairs.  LOL

Dad’s Surgery Scheduled

I just talked with the assistant at the surgeon’s office.  Surgery is scheduled for October 13th.  Dad will go to be admitted at 10:30 and surgery will be at 12:20 p.m.  Two surgeons, like I said before.  We got lucky the second guy was available on the first date – YAY.  We’re in a hurry to get this thing out of his body and get on with his life.

Any questions from anyone, just email me.  It’s easier on my physically to email rather than talk on the phone.  I can also be texted at 805-320-4313, but I prefer email.  Happy to answer any and all questions from  you all.

Oh, we did get one bit of good news when we had that last appt.  Can’t remember if I mentioned it.  He is guessing at stage 1 or 2 for now….which is definitely good….so far.

Etsy Shop Open

Well, it took a lot of work, but I’m almost finished putting all 6 of my journals up on the shop.  It’s been hotter than can be here today (for here….for me, anyway).  High of 80 outside, maybe a little higher, and 80 inside as well.  Almost all of the fans are on full blast, and working with this laptop on my lap has been a real challenge for me.

We’re hoping to hear something early this week about scheduling Dad’s surgery, but with the “Mother-May-I” ways of Dad’s insurance, who knows.  Will literally keep you posted.  Check in here first, as there will likely just be links on the other two sites.

So, this is what I’ve been up to creatively.  This is my first Asian themed journal and will be listed in my Etsy shop very soon.  Inside pages are composed of stitched-together scrapbook (and other) papers, transparencies, pockets with surprises in them, and more.  Feel free to email me with any queries.  I will be listing several journals (including two Grunge ones)….hopfully this weekend.

Back from Dad’s Appointment…UPDATE

UPDATE ON DAD:
Just came back from urologist appt. He is way more anxious to get the surgery done than he was before.

MRI showed the mass as being “as big as or larger than the kidney” and kind of infringing on pancreas, he says they have to be careful there. Also it’s near the spleen and they won’t know until they get in there if it is actually attached to the spleen. It will require two urologists in the OR.

No blood vessels seem to be involved, kidney function normal, liver okay, and the mass itself still “seems to be” encapsulated. He guessed Stage 1 or 2 at this time.

Nothing metastatic yet, no enlarged lymph nodes, as far as he can tell.

Surgery will be on a Wednesday. October 13, 20, or 27th. The doc has to book the second doctor and then get permission from SCAN, so we won’t know anything until next week, earliest.

He will be in St. John’s in Oxnard. Probably 3 to 4 day stay. Up and moving the day after, doc says he wants to keep him active, which as we all know is a good thing since he likes to be active.

I asked the doc how old he thought this thing was, and he said several years. Again, the problem with cancer is there are no symptoms until the damned thing “bothers” some other organ.

Update on Dad

Doc’s office called this morning.  Our appt. is tomorrow at 10 a.m.  We have to go fetch the MRI films from the imaging place first….big day.  LOL  Will post again as we know more.
